What started in a father's garage in 1982 has evolved into a thriving dealership that draws customers from hundreds of miles away. Justin Bergman, General Manager of Bob’s Cycle Repair in western Ohio, represents the kind of authentic, family-driven approach that's becoming increasingly rare in today's retail landscape.
Bob’s Cycle Repair's story mirrors many family businesses—humble origins, steady growth, and generational transition. After moving from their original garage to their first building in the mid-80s and operating there for 40 years, the dealership recently opened a new location where they've been operating for just over two years.
"I've done pretty much all of it at some point," Justin explains about his varied roles within the dealership. "You wear a lot of hats when you don't have as many employees." This hands-on experience across every aspect of the business gives him a unique perspective on customer needs and operational challenges.
What distinguishes Bob’s Cycle Repair isn't flashy marketing or corporate polish—it's genuine expertise. "Everybody rides, so everybody you talk to has got the experience," Justin says. This allows them to connect with customers who share the same passion.
When asked about advice for newcomers to the powersports industry, Justin's response cuts through typical business jargon: "If you like doing what you're doing, then it's not work. I like doing it, and I like to see this place grow, and I like to see the customers happy."
This philosophy extends to his view on industry challenges, particularly the shift toward online parts sales that has disrupted traditional dealership revenue streams. "If you're not happy, it's gonna be tough. Love what you do. Otherwise, do something else."
Perhaps what most sets Bob’s Cycle Repair apart is its genuine family atmosphere. With Justin's father still involved and available to help when needed, the dealership maintains the personal touch that larger corporate entities struggle to replicate. "It's a small kind of a little family that we have here," Justin explains.
Bob’s Cycle Repair's success story isn't about revolutionary business strategies or cutting-edge technology. It's about consistency, authenticity, and the understanding that in the powersports industry, passion isn't just helpful—it's essential.
