Lewistown Honda Polaris Kawasaki, located in central Montana, is more than just a dealership—it’s a true reflection of community values, family commitment, and decades of expertise in the powersports industry. Founded in 1962, just three years after Honda first came to America, Lewistown Honda has grown alongside the community, making its mark in the region’s rich powersports history.
Jeff Evans, who runs the dealership with his wife Margie, officially joined the family business in 1992, although his journey started long before then. “I was 11 years old when my parents purchased the dealership in 1984,” Jeff recalls, “I worked after school and on weekends doing everything from setups to selling parts.” His hands-on experience has given him a deep understanding of the industry. “I’ve been riding motorcycles since I was five. Whether it’s dirt bikes, snowmobiles, or anything else with a motor, it’s been a lifelong passion,” Jeff shared.
When Jeff’s parents, Phyllis and Ed Evans, took over the dealership, they introduced new brands and expanded its offerings to include Honda Power Equipment and Polaris in the mid-80s, followed by Kawasaki in 1989. What began as a modest operation grew steadily into a major destination for powersports enthusiasts across Montana. Despite economic challenges in the early years, Lewistown Honda has seen consistent growth through Jeff and Margie’s leadership.
“We’ve always believed that slow, steady growth is better than dramatic peaks and valleys,” says Jeff. “It’s sustainable, and it keeps us rooted in the community.” The business has expanded its inventory to include Honda ATVs, Motorcycles, and Side by Sides, Polaris ATVs, Side by Sides, and Snowmobiles, as well as Kawasaki products. With a well-stocked parts department and a fully equipped service center, the dealership covers every aspect of the powersports experience.
What truly sets Lewistown Honda apart is its dedication to the local community. As lifelong residents of Lewistown, Jeff and Margie understand the importance of building relationships with their customers. “We’re both small-town kids, and community values mean everything to us,” Jeff says. “People know who we are, and we know them. It’s about taking care of your neighbors.”
This sense of community extends far beyond selling vehicles. Lewistown Honda is known for its generous charitable contributions to local causes, particularly in response to medical emergencies or family crises. Whether it’s donating a Honda ATV to a benefit auction for a young family or providing financial support for medical expenses, Jeff and Margie ensure that their business gives back to the community that has supported them for so many years.
“We’ve had a few tough years with medical disasters in the community, and we always step in to help where we can. This year alone, we’ve donated a four-wheeler to a benefit and put together packages for families going through tough times. We feel a responsibility to be there for our neighbors when they need us,” Jeff explains.
The close-knit feel of the dealership extends to the employees as well. Jeff speaks highly of his team, noting that many employees have been with them for years, and some even decades. “Our employees are like family. They’ve stood by us through good times and tough times,” Jeff shares. “When I had serious medical issues a few years ago, the team didn’t miss a beat. They stepped up, ran the business, and kept things moving while I was out.”
Jeff and Margie’s approach to leadership is grounded in mutual respect and appreciation. “We take care of our employees, and they take care of us. It’s a relationship built on trust, and we’ve built some really unique bonuses and ways to show our gratitude to our staff.”
Today, Jeff and Margie continue to uphold the same values that made Lewistown Honda what it is today. With a passion for powersports, a commitment to customer service, and deep roots in the community, the dealership is poised to continue serving central Montana for years to come.
“We’ve been incredibly fortunate to be part of this community for over 40 years,” says Jeff. “At the end of the day, it’s all about giving back and building something that lasts—not just for us, but for everyone who walks through our doors.”
