January 2026 Parts & Accessories Ideas: Let’s Talk Unit Builds - Making Stock Bikes Badass

As the new year kicks off, dealerships have a prime opportunity to turn stock units into showroom head-turners by accessorizing bikes in-house instead of leaving customization to online retailers. Strategic, bolt-on upgrades—ranging from mild to full “hard enduro” builds—can significantly boost P&A margins, create stronger customer attachment, and set dealerships apart from e-commerce competitors. When done intentionally, built bikes don’t just sell units—they drive referrals, repeat service visits, and long-term profitability.

With a new year, new me, new number on the calendar it’s prime time to get creative with those incoming units sitting on the floor. We’re talking accessorizing a bike right there in the shop - turning a plain Jane into something a customer can’t walk past without stopping.

Below are some ideas so you won’t make your customers build their own from Revzilla or Rocky Mountain MC websites!

Take the KTM 300 XC-W as our go-to example.

This thing is already the king of the hill in the 2-stroke enduro world with tons of low-end grunt, agile as hell, and bulletproof. It’s the priciest base model in its class for a reason.

• Stock 2026 KTM 300 XC-W: MSRP $11,949. Straight fire out of the box.

• Upgraded Hardenduro Version (2026 KTM 300 XC-W Hardenduro): MSRP $13,699. KTM grabs the base bike, bolts on a bunch of killer extras like beefy protection, pull straps, CNC bits, fresh graphics and charges about $1,750 more for the privilege.

See the difference below? It looks ready to eat rocks for breakfast.

But here’s the thing: we can do the same (or better) in-house and pocket better margins while giving the customer exactly what they want.

How Wild Should You Go? Keep It Real.

Don’t try to turn every bike into a full Erzberg monster unless the buyer is begging for it.

Start small and smart.

Most riders just want something a little tougher or more comfortable without breaking the bank.

• Mild: Trail guys would love an upgraded skid plate, proper handguards, maybe a comfier seat. Quick bolt-ons, $500-800 in parts.

• Medium: Weekend warrior who pushes it harder needs the above full protection kit, plus pipe guard and upgraded grippier footpegs, radiator guards, billet engine case guards, $1,000-1,300 range.

• Wild: The hard enduro crowd will need to add in all the above plus pull straps, heavy-duty wheels, full graphics/plastics, carbon fiber bits, WP Pro component suspension aka the works. $2,500+ and up.

Biggest rule: Stick to stuff that’s easy to bolt on and off. If the customer changes their mind or trades up, you (or they) can pull it right back off without drama. We’ve all had that “oops, too much” moment aka don’t make it permanent. It’s also worth mentioning that if you buy built upfit accessories, you should try to get them on a program that gives you added profit margin up front. This also gives you a little more room for discounting if you hit that max days in stock and need to make it your “managers special gotta go this week!”

Why Bother? Because It Actually Works!

• It stands out: A tricked-out bike in the showroom or on the trail gets people talking. “Dude, where’d you get that done?” Boom. Referrals.

• Better money: P&A margins beat straight unit sales every time. Bundle parts + labor, watch the ticket grow.

• Customers stick around: They love having “their” bike. They come back for oil changes, tires, next upgrade… you get it.

• We win over the online guys: No one ships a fully built, dialed-in machine like your shop can.Quick shop tips to make it happen:

• Stock the winners: Protection, full wrap handguards, seats. These fly off the shelf.

• Snap before/after pics: Show ’em on social or in the shop. Customers eat that up.

• Do a “Build of the Month”: Pick one incoming unit, build it mild-to-wild, price it out, and let folks see it live.

• Track what sells: See which add-ons move fastest on new arrivals.

Let’s make this January count. Turn those stockers into custom head-turners and pad the P&A numbers. Got a wild build going on in your shop right now? Shoot us pics or tag us. We love seeing what you guys are cooking up.

Ride hard, sell smart in 2026!
