Located in rural Cottonwood, Idaho, Bud's Saw Service stands as a testament to family, community, and passion. At the helm are Hud and Shayla Horrocks, the husband-wife duo who have transformed a local dealership into a cornerstone of agricultural and recreational mobility.
The dealership's roots trace back to 1969, with a history deeply embedded in the local landscape. "We're literally located in the middle of a farm field next to the highway," Hud explains. This business is a lifeline for local farmers, ranchers, and outdoor enthusiasts.
Like many of the nation’s best dealerships, Bud's Saw Service prides itself on its family-oriented approach. The whole operation is a family affair, with John (the owner) and his wife Colleen running the office, alongside their daughters and son-in-law. "We're not just a sales transaction," Shayla emphasizes. "We treat customers as if we've known them our whole lives."
The dealership's product lineup reflects the region's unique needs. Utility four-wheelers, side-by-sides, and snowmobiles dominate their inventory, catering to the agricultural community and winter sports enthusiasts. Their customer base is primarily driven by local farmers and ranchers who rely on these machines for their daily tasks.
Having been involved with snowmobiling since age seven, Hud brings genuine expertise to every interaction. "It's not my job to pick a machine for customers," he explains. "It's my job to help them figure out what they're looking for." This approach works well for their independent, determined customer base and has earned them a loyal following, including customers like 75-year-old Lee, who has purchased five Polaris machines from the dealership.
The couple takes pride in their commitment to transparency and customer service. "We're not hiding anything on the back end," Hud states. "When we tell somebody a price, that is the price." This honesty extends to how they handle challenges, particularly with product warranties and quality control.
Despite the challenges of running a dealership in a small rural community, Hud and Shayla remain committed to maintaining a healthy work-life balance. "When we clock out for the day, we're not working anymore," Hud explains. "We're on our own time." They talk about work on the way home, but when they’re home, work is over. This approach allows them to remain passionate and engaged both professionally and personally–and helps their marriage stay strong.
As Bud's Saw Service continues to evolve, Hud and Shayla Horrocks remain committed to their core values: family, integrity, and exceptional customer service.
