Cal Coast Motorsports: 45 Years of Doing Things Right

Scott Adams grew up in the powersports world, learning every part of the business before earning his role as GM at Cal Coast Motorsports. Today, Cal Coast is a Ventura staple, known for loyal staff, top brands, and strong community ties—proving that people-first values build lasting success.

From The Ground Up

Walk into Cal Coast Motorsports today and you’ll probably spot Scott Adams somewhere in the mix – maybe helping a customer, working with his team, or solving whatever needs solving. It’s what he’s always done, starting way back when he was just a kid at his dad’s dealership, doing everything from cleaning bathrooms to running parts across town.

But Scott didn’t just step into the family business – he built his own path first. He headed to Arizona for eight years, cutting his teeth at RideNow and diving deep into the world of Harley-Davidson sales. When he came back home to Ventura, his dad didn’t just hand him the keys. In fact, he wanted to make sure Scott was really in it for the long haul, not just because it was the family business.

That was fourteen years ago. Since then, Scott’s done pretty much every job at Cal Coast – parts, service, sales, finance, you name it. By the time the General Manager spot opened up, he knew the business inside and out, making him the perfect person to help his dad transition toward retirement.

Building Something Special

These days, Cal Coast runs everything from one spot right off the 101 in Ventura. Back in 2002, they brought all their separate stores together, making it easier for riders to find everything they need in one place. They’ve stuck with brands that work – 30 years with Honda, 45 years with Kawasaki – but what really makes Cal Coast special is how they treat people.

Most powersports shops see employees come and go pretty regularly. Not Cal Coast. They might hire one new person a year, if that. Scott’s big on working alongside his team, not just managing from an office. It’s the kind of place where people want to stick around, and that shows in how they treat customers.

More Than Just Business

This approach has earned them some nice recognition – Scott was named one of the top operators under 40 by Powersports Business magazine, and locals keep voting Cal Coast as Ventura’s best. But what really gets the team excited is being part of the community.

You’ll find Cal Coast backing local events like the AJ Herrera Memorial Flat Track Race and the HolderWide Ride, plus pitching in for other community causes. It’s not just about selling bikes and gear – it’s about being part of Ventura’s riding community.

After 45 years, Cal Coast Motorsports isn’t just another powersports shop. It’s where riders come to find their next adventure, get their bike fixed by people who care, or just talk shop with folks who love riding as much as they do. In a world where businesses come and go, Cal Coast keeps proving that when you focus on people – customers, employees, and community – good things happen.
