Wichita Tractor has been a part of Kansas business since 1971, building a reputation for reliable service and genuine care for customers. Jesse McCullough, now managing the store, grew up immersed in the family business. “My father, Don, started it,” Jesse explains. “I began selling for him in 2009 and took over running the store a couple of years ago. It’s always been a family-run operation.”
The store combines its agricultural roots with a strong presence in powersports, appealing to customers with varying needs. While Kansas leans heavily on agriculture, Jesse notes that powersports buyers often travel out-of-state for their adventures: “Oklahoma is a big spot for riding.” The area’s wide-open spaces and easy access to trails make it an ideal hub for both work and recreation.
Jesse’s interest in machinery keeps him motivated. “I’ve always been into anything with an engine,” he says. This enthusiasm helps him navigate the ups and downs of the business, including recent shifts in the industry. “We’ve seen powersports move closer to agriculture sales, and COVID really shook things up. Right now, it’s about waiting for things to balance out again.”
Wichita Tractor ranks as one of the top three Polaris dealers in Kansas. Jesse attributes this to their small, focused team. “We only have five employees, but we make sure the customer always comes first. That’s been key for us.”
Building connections with the community is another cornerstone of their success. In a region that’s largely agricultural, Jesse knows the importance of meeting the needs of local farmers while also catering to powersports buyers. “It’s about understanding what people need and being there for them,” he says.
